Horton Housing Association Board Member Ray Milne is closing in on completing a gruelling challenge, walking 5km a day for a full year to raise money for the Afghan families we are supporting.
Ray began in April 2021, walking 5km every morning during the week and 10km a day on the weekends.
“Around where I live in West Yorkshire there are some incredible walks, through forests, on the Pennines, along canals and around reservoirs, so it became really enjoyable to do every day,” he said.
“I have been out when it has been raining, snowing and hailing so that has made it a little more challenging at times. Some of the paths can get very muddy too! I am fitter than I have ever been so I will definitely keep walking long after the year has passed!”
The money raised will help Horton to continue providing around-the-clock support to Afghan families who have recently arrived in the UK under the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP).
“As one of the Board Members at Horton Housing, I felt it would be great to raise money for the incredible causes Horton supports. Their work with families from Afghanistan is one of the fantastic opportunities to raise money for and if I could hit my target from all these walks, then that would be brilliant.”
Since Ray’s challenge began, he has walked roughly the same distance from Bradford to Ibiza, and has so far raised £470 of his £5k-for-5k-a-day target!
Horton Housing would like to thank Ray for his wonderful fundraising so far and wish him the best of luck until he completes the 365-day challenge in April.
