Board profile: Mohammed Awan (Designate)

I became a board member to contribute towards Horton Housing’s objectives, aspirations and ensure that we are making a qualitative difference to the life of our beneficiary. I hope to enhance my knowledge and be a committed member of the Board.

I have experience as a strategic leader with a track record of executing organisational initiatives, driving positive change, and improving governance/policies by mentoring executives and leveraging career best practices. Throughout my career, I have had various roles including as a managing change advisor, diversity manager, guidance and skills manager, engagement manager, area contract manager, partnership manager, guidance and SRB project manager. I also gained a NVQ Level 7 Diploma in Careers Guidance.

I am a goal-focused professional with experience providing a creative contribution to the Board by providing independent oversight and constructive challenge to executive directors. I am committed to assisting the company and the Board of directors by interacting with other organisations and clients. I have a proven ability to help gather external contacts to promote a company’s mission, other various business objections, and an organisation’s value to community. I am an expert in monitoring activity of executive partners and evaluating performance of management teams to meet goals and objectives. I am known for negotiating and managing careers and employability contracts and providing community consultations to promote diversity, inclusion, and ethical business practices. I am skilled in providing opportunities and supporting people, regardless of socio-economic status or background. I am an elite communicator; skilled in establishing and cultivating partnerships and collaborations between seemingly disparate communities to attain tangible shared benefits.

I do voluntary work in my spare time and currently hold positions as a management consultant for the Cranfield Trust and as a governor at Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College. My previous voluntary work includes roles as a trustee and vice chairman for Royds Enterprise Park, trustee for Royds Community Association, trustee for The Avalon Group, a governor at Shipley College, a Board member for a housing association, a Board member for a law centre, and president for a welfare association.
