I’ve been married for over 20 years and have a teenage son and daughter. We spend a lot of time together as a family, and enjoy sport, music and adventures. We also have 2 wonderful dogs who make sure we spend lots of time outdoors. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to live and work in Australia for 7 years, where we enjoyed the lifestyle and travelled a lot.
I’ve worked in financial services for most of my career, in London and Melbourne, Australia. I have always worked in Risk, but in a wide range of senior roles over the years.
In the last few years I have established my own risk management consultancy. I am dedicated to bringing my experience to other sectors and organisations, and I am thoroughly enjoying the independence that consulting gives me and it is really rewarding to be helping a diverse range of organisations to achieve their goals.
I had been thinking of applying for a role with a Housing Association for some time. I have been looking for ways that I could make an active contribution to housing and support services. I have family members who have found that the support of a strong housing association has been absolutely pivotal to helping them to feel secure, safe and build a fulfilling life. So I understand the difference these services make to peoples’ lives and the profound impact on them, their families and communities.
Horton in particularly appealed to me because of its values, and its services, particularly those targeted at helping younger people. Horton offers so much more than many other housing associations with its outreach work and services, and it seems very strategic in the way the services are aimed at providing interventions and support at an early stage.
I am very analytical and good at translating ideas and experience from other parts of my career. So I am looking forward to being able to bring my own perspective. I am also a good listener, open-minded and like to challenge and be challenged. I love working as part of a team as this collaboration can add real value and I have robust experience of working within teams to deliver outstanding results. I am strategic, organised and good at planning so I will look forward to working as part of the Board to really add value. I have specific experience of structuring financing of housing associations. I am also working with credit unions, which has given me a greater insight into their members and their needs. I also have a keen interest in financial inclusion.
I am looking forward to learning much more about Horton’s work and the challenges it faces. I like to continually expand my experience and I find that working across different industries and sectors helps me to enrich my insights and bring more to each of my roles. I am also sure that working with Horton will be personally rewarding and with such a great team on board already, I’m sure we will really enjoy working together along the way.
