Children competing in fun run

Alice, 8, and Rudy, 8, have completed the gruelling Lidl Mudder challenge, raising over £500 for our Calderdale Street Reach service.

The pair had to overcome multiple muddy obstacles and hurdles as they worked their way around the Cholmondeley Castle Estate in Cheshire.

Run in partnership between discount retailer chain Lidl and existing outdoor endurance event series Tough Mudder, Lidl Mudder gives children aged 5-12 a chance to work as a team and have fun as they complete the one-mile course.

Speaking after the event, Alice said: “I thought it was really fun. During the first round I found it fun but doing it the second and third time round I had to keep reminding myself that we were doing it for charity and for everyone who has sponsored us!

“I wanted to help this charity because when you see a homeless person on the street, it’s sad because sitting there in the cold they don’t have anything to protect them from a cold or getting poorly. Street Reach helps these people in town and that’s really cool.

“I didn’t realise we have raised over £500, that’s awesome – we did so good! Can we do it again?”

Rudy added: “It was scary at first there was lots of people there. My mum helped me start the race and then I really liked it, I went round three times! I liked getting muddy! I want to help homeless people have a better life. I can’t believe we raised so much. Thanks to everyone who sponsored us.”

Street Reach is a service provided by Horton Housing Association for people who are 18 years and over and are rough sleeping or street begging in Calderdale.

The service works flexibly to engage with people who are experiencing homelessness, securing short-term accommodation and helping them to move into longer-term settled accommodation.

Horton Housing provides emergency accommodation (crash pads) and also offer a bond scheme to help people who are experiencing homelessness to move into private rented accommodation.
