Horton Housing has been awarded the Housing Diversity Network Accreditation recognising its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

The assessors found that Horton Housing has an open and inclusive culture and that our customers are engaged and empowered to shape the services we provide.

The assessors found clear ownership of equality, diversity and inclusion by the senior management team and that the Boards are actively engaged in this agenda.

They also highlighted the focus on lived experience within recruitment which has been successful in increasing diversity, and ensuring colleagues have suitable experience and skills alongside high levels of empathy and understanding. The extensive and flexible way we use volunteers and help them gain employment was also praised.

Chief Executive Officer of Horton Housing Paul Gartland said: “We are delighted to receive this accreditation which reflects our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion within Horton. All my colleagues work hard to ensure that Horton has an open and inclusive culture.

“However we are not complacent. There is always more work to be done to ensure that our organisation is a great place to work and that we provide services, employment and volunteering opportunities that are fair and inclusive. We will now be looking at the recommendations within the report on areas where we can further improve.”

Mushtaq Khan, Chief Executive Officer at HDN, said: “We are delighted that Horton Housing have successfully achieved their accreditation though a clear commitment to promote ED & I in the workplace. Here at HDN we are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to promote fairness and inclusion in the housing sector and beyond, and it is always a real pleasure to work with like-minded and progressive organisations such as Horton.”
