We all feel anxious from time to time. However, too much anxiety can stop us from doing things we want to do and negatively affect our health.

Here are some tips to help you if you are feeling anxious:

  • Talk to someone you are close to or contact a helpline. See list below.
  • Join a support group
  • Look after your health: eat well, be active, and try to get enough sleep
  • Avoid or cut down on alcohol, cigarettes, drugs or gambling
  • Use relaxation techniques e.g. breathing, mindfulness or meditation
  • Keep busy to shift your focus. Do something you enjoy or start a hobby or interest
  • Write down your worries. Do not spend all day thinking about them.
  • Face your anxiety a step at a time by setting small goals.
  • Avoid situations which make you anxious until you feel ready.

See your GP if you are not feeling better. They may refer you to a therapist or give you medication to help you with your anxiety.
