Mental health support

It can be hard to ask for help if you are feeling low. You are not alone – it is ok to reach out for support. Taking this step will help you to manage your mental health and improve your health and wellbeing.

There are many different mental health support options available for you to try to find the one that works best for you. Some of these services are listed below.

Your GP can help you by giving a mental health diagnosis, a referral to a mental health specialist or offer medication.

NHS Talking Therapies is a free service which offers one-to-one support for people experiencing anxiety and depression. You can sign up to the service if you are aged 18 and over, and registered with a GP. For more information visit the NHS talking therapies website.

Andy’s Man Club run group sessions for men to talk openly about their mental health. The club started in Calderdale and now runs group sessions in venues across the UK. For more information and to find your local group, visit Andy’s Man Club website.

SHOUT: free, confidential support available 24/7, text SHOUT to 85258

SANEline: an out-of-hours service which gives practical information and emotional support. Available between 4pm – 10pm every day. Call 0300 304 7000.

Bradford and Craven

Mind in Bradford (covers Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven) runs group or one-to-one sessions, and an online chat on Mind in Bradford’s website. You can also call their Guide-line for support from 8am to midnight on 08001 884 884.

Calderdale and Kirklees

Healthy Minds Calderdale run peer support groups and one-to-one sessions. They also offer guidance and support for people who are struggling with their benefits and experiencing mental health challenges. Visit the Healthy Minds Calderdale website for more information.

North Yorkshire

Mind in Harrogate runs counselling, a befriending service, and outreach hubs with information on local mental health services. You can also get support by calling their helpline on 01423 503335. York Mind (covers the Selby district) offer peer group support, counselling sessions, and services for young people who are experiencing mental health challenges. For more information, visit York Mind’s website.
